SA Aviation Museum scores a new hangar

  • New hangar at South Australia’s Aviation Museum now open
  • The upgrade will allow the museum to increase their collection of iconic aircraft
  • The Coalition Government invested $205,000 towards the $502,971 project

Port Adelaide’s Aviation Museum opened the doors to a new hangar today providing a new display area for their collection of heritage aircraft such as the RAAF P-3 Orion and DHC-4 Caribou.

Minister for Regional Development Fiona Nash said the Coalition Government was thrilled to partner with South Australia’s Aviation Museum to deliver this project.

“The new hangar will not only enhance the museum’s capacity for display but also provides the opportunity to acquire additional items and increase their collection of iconic aircraft,” Minister Nash said.

“I aim to build the kinds of communities our children and grandchildren either want to stay in or come back to, and projects like this one do exactly that.”

Senator for South Australia David Fawcett, who joined the community today for the official opening celebrations, said the museum will provide visitors with a peek into Australia’s rich aviation history.

“Aviation has played a significant role in reducing Australia’s tyranny of distance, including the iconic Royal Flying Doctor Service and household names such as Qantas and Charles Kingsford-Smith,” Senator Fawcett said.

“This museum captures this history, and the project will contribute to the economic growth of the region through increased visitation, tourism and jobs. This includes an enhanced tour experience for all visitors and exciting new educational programs to schools.”

This project was jointly funded by the Coalition Government ($205,000) and the South Australian Aviation Museum ($297,971).
