StatementStatement on the Passing of Stefan Romaniw OAM
My thoughts and prayers are with the Australian Ukrainian community following news of the tragic death of Stefan Romaniw OAM in Warsaw at the age of sixty-eight.
Stefan was First Vice President of the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) and the Co-Chair of the Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations. In both roles, he was respected for his resolute advocacy for the interests of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people.
In 2001, Stefan was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for his service to “education and language learning, particularly through the coordination and provision of services for people from linguistically and culturally diverse backgrounds.”
He was also the recipient of the Centenary Medal for voluntary service to the community as well as three levels of Orders of Recognition and Medals from the President of Ukraine.
A passionate and dedicated community leader in Australia, Stefan was a determined and powerful advocate for Ukraine’s cause, both in Australia and abroad.
My heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends.
Slava Ukraini.
Ends.
