Media ReleaseAntisemitic Vandalism in Sydney
The resurgence of egregious antisemitism in Australia since the events of 7 October 2023 has continued with a vile vandalism incident at a Synagogue in Sydney this morning.
I unequivocally condemn the perpetrators of these actions. They must be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
Australia is a free, fair and prosperous nation with a successful and stable plural liberal democracy—where differences are respected.
Remaining silent in the face of this anti-Jewish resurgence will only encourage further incidents and lead to even greater evils.
We increasingly see alarming historical parallels between the treatment of Australia’s Jewish community over the past two years and the escalation of antisemitism in Nazi Germany before the Second World War.
If we are to stem the tide of antisemitism in Australia, our leaders must not remain silent. They must act decisively to condemn and punish those who commit such vile acts of hatred.
There is no place for antisemitism in our country.
Ends.
